Commissioned by Rachael from sunny Palo Alto, California, I was asked to paint a portrait of her show horse. Affectionately known as Zed, this chestnut gelding has a distinct white blaze, running down his face along with two hind stockings to match.
For Zed’s portrait, Rachael requested his full blaze be featured as well as his notorious “flirty eyes.” A three quarter profile shot was chosen to showcase his blaze and wonderful, golden lashes. The halter in the reference photograph was also omitted in favour of a more classic head shot portrait.
Here’s wishing Rachael and Zed a great next show season together!
