Commissioned by Lexi from Massachusetts, I was asked to paint her sister Sara’s chestnut mare, Versailles. Affectionately known as Princess V, Hammy and Hamster, this pretty girl was a pleasure to paint. From the intricacies of her bit and bridle to her characteristic markings, I enjoyed capturing her likeness.
A treasured partner, Sara and Versailles had great results in the jumper ring. Earning numerous ribbons at major horse show circuits like WEF in Wellington, HITS Ocala and WEC Ohio, the pair shared many special moments, victories and firsts. It’s easy to see why she was so loved. Sadly, a tragic death ended the partnership too soon and Sara had to say goodbye to her heart horse.
The second portrait I’ve had the pleasure of painting for Sara, this piece will make a great addition to her collection. Although Versailles is no longer with us, Sara can enjoy her portrait and cherish the memories of her beloved horse for years to come.
