One of the most enjoyable parts of accepting a new commission is discovering what kind of horse or dog the client would like for their portrait. This year, I've had the pleasure of painting new breeds and interesting mixes...ones I am familiar with and ones I definitely had to look up.
This portrait marked my first ever, true-blue barrel racer. Commissioned as a Christmas gift my client's barrel-racing girlfriend, this agile Quarter Horse, tacked-up in a fancy headstall, breastplate and western saddle to match, was great fun to paint.
Named Springsteen, this sweet Chestnut with long white blaze must be a true performer in the ring to gallop and pivot around barrels at break neck speed.
A great gift for any horse lover, this portrait of a capable partner and trusted competitor will no doubt be treasured for years to come.
